People who learned about the Savior's birth and what they did.

1.    Fill in the chart below as you study the scriptures indicated:
Who

How they learned about the Savior

What they knew about the Savior

What they did with their knowledge

Elisabeth (Luke 1:39-45)

Elisabeth learned about the Savior through the Holy Ghost, vs. 1, “When Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost.”

Elisabeth could feel her baby rejoice being near the baby Jesus, vs. 44, “as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.”

I think that Elisabeth shows thanks and respects when she says, “Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb” (vs. 42).
Shepherds (Luke 2:8-18)

The shepherds learned of the Savior through an Angel, “the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them” (vs. 9).

They knew that Christ would be their Saviour and where they could find baby Jesus.

After being visited by an Angel, the shepherds act right away, “And they came with haste…And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child” (vs. 16-17).
They were obedient and then went and taught others.
Simeon (Luke 2:25-35)

Simeon also learned of the Savior through the Holy Ghost, “And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ” (vs. 26).
Simeon knew he would see the Savior.

When Mary and Joseph came to the temple he showed thanks to God for what he had witnessed. “Then took he him (Jesus) up in his arms, and blessed God (vs. 28). He then testifies about the Savior to Mary and Joseph, “Joseph and his mother marveled” (vs. 33).

Anna (Luke 2:36-38)

Anna was spiritually prepared to learn about the Savior through the Holy Ghost, “(Anna) departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day” (vs. 36). She learned in an “instant” about the Savior.

She knew that Christ would redeem people from their sins.

Anna gave thanks and then shared with all,  “(Anna) gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem” (vs. 38).

Wise Men (Matthew 2:1-12)
The Wise Men learned of the Savior by knowing and studying the sign given by the prophets.

The Wise Men knew that the Savior was born into the world because of the star.

They went and searched for the Savior and then heeded the prompting of the Spirit to depart another way into their own country.
Herod (Matthew 2:1-18)

Herod learned of the Savior by the arrival of the Wise Men searching for the Savior.

He knew where Christ would be born because of his Chief priests. He also learned from his priests, “for out of thee (Juda) shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel” (vs. 6).

He sent the wise men to find Jesus and then return and report.
Chief Priests (Matthew 2:1-6)

Like the Wise Men, the Chief Priests knew about the Savior from scriptures and prophets. They learned about it from the Wise Men when they came to see Herod.

Like I said above, they knew that the Savior would arrive in Juda and be a “Governor” of the people.

They counseled with Herod and decided to send out the Wise Men to search for the baby Jesus.
Nephites (3 Nephi 1:12-22)

The Nephites learned about the Savior from the voice of the “Lift up your head and be of good cheer; for behold, the time is at hand, and on this night shall the sign be given, and on the morrow come I into the world, to show unto the world that I will fulfill all that which I have caused to be spoken by the mouth of my holy prophets.” (vs. 13).

The Lord also told them His reason for coming, “Behold, I come unto my own, to fulfil all things which I have made known unto the children of men from the foundation of the world, and to do the will, both of the Father and of the Son” (vs.14).

Nephi tells the people to repent and change. Those who did not listen to the prophets are filled with fear at the signs of Christ’s coming.

2.    Write a response to the question: What do I know about the Savior, how have I learned it, and what am I doing with what I know?
What do I know about the Savior? I know that the Savior loves each of us and knows our needs, wants, and desires. I know that the Savior died and suffered in order for me and everyone else to have the opportunity to be redeemed from sins. I know that through the power of the Atonement we can also return to live back with our Heavenly Father. I also know that the Savior and our Heavenly Father will always answer our prayers in their own timing and according to their will.
How have I learned it? I grew up a member of the Church and my parents taught me the principles of the gospel in addition to leading by example. I also learned through personal study and prayer.
What am I doing with what I know? I feel like I need to share verbally more about what I know about the Savior. After reading all the examples in the scriptures I can see how bold the reactions were. Right now I try to live by example and look for opportunities to share information about our church. I also share my testimony and talks through Facebook.
