The Gospel of Christ is the Power of God unto Salvation
Jesus Christ is the mortal son of Joseph and Mary and the immortal son of our Heavenly Father. We are all children of our Heavenly Father. Jesus Christ, however, was from the seed of David, meaning he was an heir to the throne. This means that the Savior could have rightfully been king on the Earth, and a king or Savior to our salvation. In the Bible this is explained in Romans 1:3-4, “… Jesus Christ … made of the seed of David … And declared to be the Son of God with power … by the resurrection from the dead.” We are also told in the Bible, “Thou shalt conceive in thy womb,” talking to Mary, “his name Jesus … and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David” (Luke 1:32-33). In verses 23 through 31 of chapter 3 of Luke we are given the lineage of Joseph confirming Jesus as a descendant of David.
In Romans chapter 1 we are given the testimony of Paul. He speaks with such authority and in verse 16 says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto Salvation to every one that believeth.” So how can we not be ashamed? I think that this gospel requires total commitment. I believe that we must do the things we have been taught; reading scriptures, prayer, obedience, renewing covenants, etc. I also think it is important to share what we know. We need to stand up for what we believe, even if we stand-alone; although we are never really alone because the Savior will always be near.
In our society today, there are many temptations and sins that easily beset us. I think we have to be cautious of whether we serve the natural man or God. Romans 1:25 says, “Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator.” Thankfully, we do have the Atonement that allows us to repent of our sins.
