New Testament: Personal Goals for the Week

After studying 1 Thessalonians 3–5 and 2 Thessalonians 3:1–6, 11, I came up with three attributes to work on this week. I am going to strive to edify one another, be patient with everyone, and give thanks.

Edify One Another:

1 Thessalonians 5:11
“Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.”

I think this attribute goes along with loving one another. If you love someone then you want to help him or her. This week I want to work harder to edify my classmates through the online discussion boards.  This means taking more time to ponder how to best respond and to look for other sources to back up what I am saying.

Be Patient:

1 Thessalonians 5:14
“Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.”

I teach after school art classes for elementary kids. I am going to strive to be patient with a few kids that I seem to have trouble with in my class tomorrow. I am also going to work on being patient and understanding about any issues that may come up in my online classes.

Give Thanks:

1 Thessalonians 5:18
“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

I think that I will be more incline to follow through with my first two goals if I am continually showing gratitude. This week I am going to try writing down a few things every day that I am grateful for in my journal. I am also going to have a gratitude prayer every day. I think this will help me to see how blessed I am.
